Hi guys! Nice to meet you all! Quick question; should I delete ALL my other social network accounts and use exclusively Pjuu from now on? Let's say I would like to boost my privacy as much as possible, what do you recommend?

If you want to boost your privacy to the maximum then don't use the internet. Pjuu is better than Facebook at privacy.

Yes, that would be the ultimate solution but I think it's too late for me to have a life without the internet. Other than that, by using Pjuu I can't see how could I endanger my privacy. In that regard, Pjuu's policy is the most direct that I've managed to found, even in respect of other "free" social networks (the Mastodon one, for example, seems a bit intrusive).

I'm not on Mastodon, but another GnuSocial server. I see nothing questionable about it. I've not looked into accessing either via tor, which may be the route you want to go.

Just to let you know that I'm not making things up.

I've seen that. One reason I'm not there.

You can setup your own server with an open source social network of your choice. Your server, your rules, your privacy. Do you know Libertree.org ?
With libertree your server is a tree. You can allow your friends to be on the same tree. If you post something, you decide if it is viewable for the tree or the forest (all trees).

I didn't know it, maybe I'll give it a try. I'm reading that Heroku (which is required to install the Libertree.org server) uses Amazon's services though... and I'm not quite fond of the company (for obvious privacy-related reasons). Nevertheless, I must admit that the concept behind this tree-structured network is pretty cool!

    Nifty.
My only question would be if it's all encrypted. I was backing up to the Amazon cloud, but everything was encrypted.

I can't advise that you do this. We are still one instance of the Pjuu software (and only public AFAIK). Me (me and @ant) are based in the UK so the laws here could govern us someday and it would be hard to do anything about it.

And who can trust the British government since the Assange thing.

Exactly that. This is the problem with social networks these days. Exactly why we keep the servers in a different country. Unfortunately Icelandic web hosting is too expensive as that would be ideal.

Your privacy needs depend much on what you want to do online.
If, for example, you want to interact with your friends and family, the offline ones, you probably need other social networks, and whatever they entail.

If you only want to post stuff, without caring for who your audience is, Pjuu is good enough. You may even host an instance Pjuu yourself, should you want.

Ah yes, in case of the mighty arm of the law comes looking for you, Pjuu will comply with their 'requests'.

@mukt we may be forced to, definitley would not be willing. We don't store any identifiable information except e-mail address which I'm thinking we may get rid of.

Make email optional for sign up @Joe.

The problem is, how can you reset a forgotten password without an email?

As I recall, you could use a Guerrillamail address.

@shalimar that's the only reason it's there. @mukt maybe optional is a good idea, we could simply warn the user they will not be able to access their account if they loose the password.
