  I will also point out that the owncloud folks specially say that they don't recommend owncloud for backups.

  Store important data in 3 logical locations in preferably 3 geographical locations. I only have 2 logical locations separated by maybe 50cm :$
  
  Best rule of thumb what backups are concerned: a file without a backup is not a file.
