My phone is Google-free, and is working and running smoother and better than ever. i do not have any Google apps or services running ony phone (LG G6). I have LineageOS as my main Operating System, and download apps through F-droid. Everything works perfectly. You do not need Google for anything at all. i eben completely deletey Google account and am using alternative services for email such as Protonmail and Tutanota.

    Nice, unfortunately i still have a google account to comment on youtube videos, but i may delete my account soon

    I was genuinely scared that without Google Services lots of things wouldn't work like location for example. But it all works fine, and there are lots of alternatives out there.

    I'm planning on getting the Essential phone once I have enough money saved up for it. It's probably the best phone for installing custom roms.

    @sigg3 extremely partially supported. My phone is the T-Mobile version of the LG G6, anf so it was a biy complicated to unlock and root. But luckily I was able to get in contact with a developer who had developed a very great working lineageOS rom for the phone. Even though it's Nougat. But there's not much else out there for this phone.

    Awesome. Unfortunately, the list of supported devices is short. Did you install on a partially supported device?
