With my limited knowledge of America and its democracy, American democracy isn't perfect because:
    1) It limits voting rights to adults (that is, age > 18 years).
    2) Gerrymandering.
    3) The right to recall elected representatives is highly constrained.

Of these, only 1) is justifiable as good. Other two weaken democracy.

A democracy is any system for formation of government where citizens periodically choose their government representative (or representatives). Perfect democracy would be one where:

    1) All citizens have equal right to vote and all votes carry exactly equal weight.
    2) All citizens and candidate representatives participate voluntarily, without any coercion of any kind.
    3) Right to recall any elected representative at any given time by majority vote of relevant electorate must exist.

I am not an American. Never been there. So I have no direct impression of it.
What I have instead is exposure to its news media, its television shows, its movies, resources on the internet, I do talk to some of my relatives and friends who have lived there or still live there - they share their impressions, etc.

In my impression, in brief, the American democracy, while not a textbook perfect example of democracy, is very near to it in its current state.

@mukt It works as a capitalist democracy. What are your impressions of the US?

Do you think American democracy/American system, works on voter's choice or not?

@mukt The US is a capitalist democracy.

Are you under the impression that your country, your democracy isn't a "true democracy" or equivalent?

@mukt To be clear, I am not and never will protest against "voter's choice". I believe in the vote so long as it is freely made. A truly democratic government allows all voices to participate freely and be counted equally. We don't have that. What we actually have is a capitalist democracy where those with the most money have the most power to push their agenda. The popular vote was overwhelming not for the current troll and yet here we are because of false laws made to favor the rich.

About government: If the government is democratic, than essentially you are protesting against voter's choice. Some half the voters are women, isn't it?

About pay gap: Does that actually exist against women?

@mukt Women still make up a small percentage of government. Also, you'll see that a lot of women's health care rights are determined by white men -- the budget cuts to Planned Parenthood for instance. And many jobs that are currently held by women are underpaid. Protests have been happening for awhile now and way before I was here, it just seems like it's happening now because of historical amnesia due in large part to media.

I think American women can now participate in formation of government at least at par with American men. So issue raised seems addressed already.

    So why the protests now?

@mukt It's not just women in Washington, but women in general have less of a say in things, if any, politically and economically. Say for instance, early American colonialism. Women weren't part of the process of "establishing" the American government. It was a terrible thing that happened to the Native Americans during the wave of early American colonialism.

What exactly the women in Washington can't do that women elsewhere can? Or men in Washington can?

@mukt I'm protesting for women's rights here, but generally I am against unauthorized and abusive powers in the myriad of forms they take.
