  Since I've never experienced nor saw a real democracy, it's hard to tell.

  That all depends. The core principals and foundation of the internet offers more freedom than anyone or thing can handle however the current implimentation and usage of the internet offers no freedom at all. We have a tool that offers vast freedom and connectivity and yet it is used as a surveillance tool.
