  Unfortunately, a lot of Europe is suffering from some kind of deep distrust of the political class.
  
  Buffoons like Johnson exploit this rather effectively, resulting in a lot of self-contradictory votes based on short sighted emotional views rather than long-term rational views.
  
  Regardless of the scandalous and irrational political changes, the real damage is done to democracy as a model of government IMO. Divide and conquer.
