  Why would you put paste on the pins? It wouldn't work the heat has no where to escape too. It would go on the top no? Unless something changed since I last changed thermal paste

  @Handymark It's too much thermal paste, and not applied evenly. It'll harden and make the cpu run hot.
  
  It's the reason I buy boxed cpus for my customers, to make sure they can't accuse me of paste misapplication.
