Joe 1 year agoToday is bad day for IT in the UK. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/09/today-uk-parliament-undermined-privacy-security-and-freedom-all-internet-users
I don't know what this means for Pjuu at this point. The site/software is maintained by ourselves and not an entity so I'm unsure at this point.
I never thought that the UK would become a true survelance state but it has. The book 1984 came out of this country and we've clearly learned nothing from it.- 4

Joe 1 year agoI've been following the AI revolution quite carefully. As would be expected for someone who run a website that still looks like it was 10 years ago, I was skepitical. But, it's amazing! What it can conjure from the simplest inputs it uterly outstanding. I don't trust it though. But I am watching. OpenAI should go back to being Open. Linux worked well because of it's openness they should keep that in mind. Microsoft may want the opposite but that's a failing platform, Azure runs on Linux.

Joe 1 year agoAfternoon everyone. I'm currently experimenting with some patterns for re-writing Pjuu. This is coming at a good time as I'm building a very large application for work where these patterns will be useful. I'll try keep people updated on progress before I'm ready to open it to the world.

Joe 2 years agoWell I made the wrong decision; concentrating on privacy. We we're around a few years before Mastodon and at the time privacy was my biggest concern with social networks. I didn't see how federation would solve the privacy issue but now, 10 years after I first thought of Pjuu I can assert I was incorrect. We don't solve the privacy concerns, there is nothing here that couldn't be solved by being a Fediverse node whilst still allowing us to chat with others... more in the comments.

Joe 2 years agoHi everyone 👋🏼
We're planning on moving Pjuu's hosting over the next few weeks, just letting you all know in advance that there will be some planned down time coming. We're planning on moving to AWS. The cost of hosting there when I reserve the instances is substantially lower and we're already using S3 for the CDN so hopefully uploads will be quicker.- 7
