  I've played with the latest Xiaomi phones. They're very capable and quite cheap if you buy them from China.

  LG Tribute HD. I don't care about rooting anymore and it's stupid cheap, but with solid performance.

  A good thing to look at is the available custom ROMs. Even if you don't want to change the OS right now, it might become the case when the phone is getting old, and when that's the case you might regret not taking that into consideration.

  I think it depends on what you need and the budget. Personally, if its gonna be a smartphone,it should be android every time. Rooting is another must

  Good question. Personally I would still buy a Nexus 5X, reasoning: Stock Android and really cheap compare to The Pixel.
