    @Joe Laws are not the problem. We just need enlightened laws that manage to accurately capture the technology it is for.

    I have to agree @sigg3. I brought this point up the other day in a comment here. Unless we are willing to forgo our lives we have to abide by the law. The laws are the problem in privacy.

    Telegram's only plus point over Whatsapp, as far as privacy is concerned, is that it is not owned/controlled by any of the PRISM companies: Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Yahoo, or Microsoft.

    Yep. Fact of the matter is that you cannot trust a third party in handling secrets at the level of a sovereign country. A sovereign is entitled to a lot of things and will also go to war. Private companies exists only within a judicial system. So avoid the problem by not relying on private entities that fall under the sovereign's jurisdiction. Use trustless solutions where you can.
