Well one day from the election in the US. I'm interested to see what happens.

@sigg3 And the concept that my vote is going to change things is laughable to the extreme. It was a neat fairy-tale long ago.

@sigg3 You're right on things being better. However, that is DESPITE the weak, stupid, and credulous people. Additionally past performance is no indication of future performance. (relevant https://is.gd/xaozPK)

Just because things have improved is no reason to accept sloppy thinking or the teaching that you don't have to work to achieve anything.

@stolensoul Preparing for the worst is only prudent. Believing that the worst is already happening and that you can't do anything about it because those actions again are doomed to fail is pessimism.

I'm more on a pessimistic approach. Let's just think the worst is going to happen and prepare for it.

But I personally always find the move from rationality towards superstition, hearsay, and religious dogma to be worrying.

My knee-jerk response is "of course". My follow up question (to myself as much as to anyone else) is "have all past generations felt this way about the bulk of the US population?"

    Question Johnny.... Is it worrying??

That's a foolish hope. Rational, mature discussion is long gone. This one event won't impact that in the least. Sides are hedging, getting more extreme, and more deaf to any other group's input.

It has been a very negative campaign on both sides. FUD abound. Heard a piece on #BBC radio about the psychological sense of worry and gloom resulting from the public discourse. People want the rational (whatever that is) but both campaigns have lowered their standards well below common practice. Image a friend or a neighbor behaving like that. *shudder* Hopefully the end of the election will be a relief to the worried and be the end of this unworthy manner of discussion!
