I tried installing Debain, kept getting Boot Manager not Found error. wasn't able to get Grub2 re-installed that didn't work. How ever I was able to get Antergos installed using systemd-boot for some reason.

I am assuming other Ubuntu bsse d Linux will be collecting more and more data. I will be changing my laptop over to Debian. My tablet well I can't see to get it rooted to install another Linux distro on it.

interesting article, I always figured they collected some diagnostic info but seems like they are moving more towards collecting more with less and less transparency.

Ubuntu gets closer to a closed source project, while Debian keeps on encouraging open source, which makes them less dubious

Ubuntu is not much of an improvement, I would say. They have a bad reputation in these regards: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/ubuntu-data-collection/

I don't know if Debian is affected by the same problems, but I would suggest to try installing that distro on you tablet, if possible.

I tried rooting my tablet to install Ubuntu or something other than Android. Turned out can't root an rca Voyager tablet.

My assumptions may be wrong though. Haven't seen much from Apple snooping wise and Mac and iOS are based on OpenSource too.

@Johnnynull I guess it's who can capitalize on the data collected more. Google also have the context from all the analytics snooping going on. TBH I use a Mac with all the Spotlight settings turned off. I wouldn't trust Canonical/Ubuntu for same reasons as Apple, MS, Google, etc. I would be open to an alternative phone OS but haven't seen a better one than Android. iOS more than likely collects less data.

You can completely remove Google (at least the annoying parts) from Android, it's still open source (for now).
And apart from reactOS which is far from usable, there is no compatible windows alternative.

@Joe Fair enough. But some of that you can mitigate. Meanwhile Windows wants to send all your keystrokes home. They're now phoning home when USB devices are plugged in and trying to track them.

Oh yeah I am aware of how much google collects. I turned and disabled or removed all google. Using fdriof and duck and something called yalp store.
I tried rooting this fn thing to install unbuntu but root is next to impossible.

@johnnynull I'm not 100% sure you know. Google collect far more data from Android than Windows 10 could from that platform.

    Sadly I'd say Android.
