Hello @Joe do you know if there is a good VPN service that is free of charge?

The .onion address is a great idea @joe

@Joe It's a good idea. Perhaps add a link to some best practices as well. Or add an option that posts are only visible in the TOR network? I don't know :-)

As in it gets a .onion address. You don't have to exit the network to access the address. In fact you can only access it via tor. Facebook have one also. Twitter did but they dropped it

@Joe I'm no security expert;) Is "hidden service" a TOR term or what? Hidden in what regard?

    Well that's atleast 1! I would class that as a success 😂

Would give a lot of "cred" amongst the various cyberspheres.
(Aside: My New Year's resolution was to use the term "cyber" more. [I've not done well with this resolution either.])

I think I will create a hidden service. Not to hide us obviously but for users would be well worth it. Have any thoughts @sigg3?

@Joe You make an excellent point. With all the recent talk of accessing pjuu through Tor, that's where my mind went.

@johnnynull, a lot of those issues go if you have a hidden service as you don't need to exit the Tor network.

@sigg3 you are correct my bad. I guess it depends what you want to achieve through the VPN.

I found a VPN site with EFF(Electronic Frontier Foundation) members and with privacy guides. The link for the privacy guides is https://www.ivpn.net/privacy-guides

    There's privacytools.io FWIW.

Additionally, as I understand it, one should use Tor for one site, then disconnect and wipe the session before going to another, reducing the traffic fingerprint (or some type of cookie mishap).

@Joe @Pensador_13 Just remember that VPN is an encrypted tunnel between end points and Tor is an onion like routing of traffic where entry and exit point have no exchange of information. They are not interchangeable. Neither really solves the problem of anonymity on its own, but both (and both combined) contributes in obfuscating information that can be used in identifying internet users.

Neither is anonymous if you e.g. have a distinguishable browser fingerprint.

    #vpn #tor #anonymity

You should give Tor a try, its free. https://www.torproject.org/ it will protect your anonymity. It may be slower because it does various hops.

Thanks for the quick answer! I was just curious of using it, since it can be used to surf the Web more privately. I never used a VPN so I have very little knowledge of it ;)

Sorry I can't say I've ever used any of the services. I just VPN through a Digital Ocean node if I ever need to get anywhere.
