Joe 7 years ago@mukt it does deserve a blog post, I will try get around to it. Thanks for the link @Johnynull was a good read. Ultimately my position is: privacy outweighs everything. If we were federated how could protect users from evil nodes/pods? I doubt that we could. By being able to talk anonymously (if we so choose) that's a step in the right direction. I should make it clearer that except for your e-mail address we have no way to identify users, and we dont mind if you use a fake one of them :)

Joe 7 years agoI agree with Moxie but for a different reason, you are still ultimatley under the control of who ever owns your hub, pod, server, etc. Just because you have the ability to move on a federated network doesn't mean you will. @shalimar, I don't think decentralization does stop censorship, someone higher up the chain still has the power (hosting/cable providers, etc).

Johnnynull 7 years agoBlog post may help reduce the annoyance of @Joe on this topic. Or a one-word response in the FAQ.
Not to put words in @Joe's mouth, but I imagine this isn't far from his thoughts https://whispersystems.org/blog/the-ecosystem-is-moving/. They're close to mine.- 1

Joe 7 years agoI don't think decentralised solves the privacy issue as your just moving the problem up a level
