  Correct. Also, the "!" is sometimes called a "bang".

  Those are called bangs.
  Google bang redirects to encrypted.google.com

  @Joe good point. I believe you start your search with !g to do that.

  Just trying to remember how to do but you can get DDG to return Google results instead. It's then anonymous as it comes from them

  There is also Disconnectme service set as default in Tor. Is it any good ?

  I use google only when ddg gives poor results.
  While using it like this, I find that often google also gives poor results.
