@mukt I just read the article properly and it's like someone on the plane was reading the messages. This wouldn't be encrypted.

This is true. I don't disagree with you. I guess they will have detection systems running which is just bad!

Whatsapp could be sharing keys with someone... entirely possible. But these guys appear to have been detained within minutes of whatsapp chat... at an Italian airport.

If this is true, it is anyone's guess how many agencies have Whatsapp keys.

@mukt it doesn't mean it is not sound cryptography. The question is who has the keys. Any system is broken with access to the key in encryption.

Allow me to point out to scarier dots of what I believe is more than a conspiracy theory now.

Moxie Marlynspike, the guy who lent his reputation to encryption at Whatsapp, is also the guy behind Signal, the original e2e encrypted communication app. If Whatsapp encryption has backdoor than why shouldn't one suspect the same for Signal app? Especially since Moxie seems in a hurry to "declare victory" in encryption war...

Whatsapp have gone down hill since FB bought them. There is some amazing engineering that has happened there in the past.
