There is one thing that Pjuu can do differently @Joe. You can make a display setting that hides upvotes and downvotes, along with the flag into a single icon... the three vertical dot icon which is becoming so popular these days would work well.

@mukt your thoughts make sense, thanks. It's sometimes hard for me to see through the code to the community and make descisions. We can always look in to this stuff as time goes on.

As for Pjuu, it is a small community as of now, with better crowd than almost any other general purpose social network. Sure it has memes, and its own 'culture' is emerging... but those things are more of a flavour right now than the vacuous content of the forum. I like it as it is now. Sure there can be improvements. I'd certainly like to blog or DM from here, but even now it can serve as a great medium for medium length blogging... when I have time.

Then again, I have liked Reddit/Voat format for news curation and commenting as well. Their USP, however, is not the 'like' button or the upvote... it is the downvote that filters down the low quality comments along with brilliant sorting options for comments like 'controversial' one that make it more meaningful.

I agree with the author. But here is the problem: There are very few people that want what he, you or I want. Ultimately the tradeoff is between number of participants and substance of discussion, between quantity and quality.

I guess follower count would be something to go off to point new users in a direction. What are your personal opinions on the matter?

I thought about multiple things a while ago and I sort of agree with this. I wish I hadn't bothered now with trophies and scores if I'm perfectly honest. I used to be worried that the site would look inactive with votes but I don't think they're used for what they were intended. I pretty much upvote most things or don't bother.
